اس وقت پولیو وائرس افغانستان، بھارت، نائجیریا اور پاکستان میں پایا جاتا ہے۔
اس کے علاوہ دیگر ممالک میں بھی اس بیماری کے دوبارہ ابھرنے کی اطلاعات ہیں جہاں پولیو کے ایک سو باسٹھ کیس منظر عام پر آئے۔
ماہرین خاص طور پر افریقی ممالک کانگو اور چاڈ میں بیماری کے ابھرنے کے بارے میں فکرمند ہیں۔
پچھلے سال دنیا بھر میں پولیو کے تقریباً ایک ہزار کیس درج کیے گئے تھے۔

رپورٹ کے مطابق پاکستان کے ایک علاقے میں پولیو ویکسی نیشن فراہم کرنے والے افراد نے اپنا کام ناتجربہ کار بچوں کے حوالے کر دیا تھا اور ایک دوسری مہم میں دوا پلانے والے بجائے لوگوں میں گھل مل کر ویکسی نیشن فراہم کرنے کے ایک جگہ کھڑے کھڑے کام کر رہے تھے
مہم کے سربراہ برطانیہ کے سابق چیف میڈیکل افسر سر لائم ڈونلڈسن کا کہنا ہے ’پچھلی دو دہائیوں میں ہم پولیو وائرس کو کم کرنے میں کافی حد تک کامیاب رہے ہیں۔ اگرچہ دنیا میں بیماری پہلے کی نسبت صرف ایک فیصد رہ گئی ہے لیکن اس ایک فیصد کا خاتمہ سب سے بڑا چیلنج ہے۔‘
سر لائم ڈونلڈسن کا کہنا تھا ’بھارت نے بیماری کے خاتمے کے لیے ایک نہایت ہی سادہ اور اچھا طریقہ کار اپنایا ہے۔ وہاں محکمہ صحت کے اہلکاروں نے ہر ایک بچے کو پولیو کی دوا پلائی ہے۔ اگر بھارت ایسا کر سکتا ہے تو باقی ممالک کیوں نہیں کر سکتے؟‘
رپورٹ کے مطابق پاکستان کے ایک علاقے میں پولیو ڈراپ فراہم کرنے والے افراد نے اپنا کام ناتجربہ کار بچوں کے حوالے کر دیا تھا اور ایک دوسری مہم میں دوا پلانے والے بجائے لوگوں میں گھل مل کر ڈراپ فراہم کرنے کے ایک جگہ کھڑے کھڑے کام کر رہے تھے۔
پانچ سال سے کم عمر کے بچوں میں ہونے والی اس بیماری کو بیسوی صدی کی سب سے خطرناک بیماریوں میں شمار کیا جاتا ہے۔ پولیو کا کوئی علاج نہیں ہے سوائے اس کے کہ بچوں کو وقت پر دوا پلائی جائے۔
سر لائم ڈونلڈسن کا کہنا تھا ’بیماری کا خاتمہ آئندہ کیا جا سکتا ہے اگر حکومتیں میسر اقدامات اٹھائیں اور پولیو پائے جانے والے ممالک کو خاتمے کے لیے مناسب فنڈنگ میسر ہو۔‘
